Disclaimer

Our calculators are verified against published quilting references and tested before every update. They are still estimates, and your pattern is the final authority.

Results are planning estimates

Every calculator states its assumptions in its "Sources and methodology" section: usable fabric width after selvages, overhang amounts, seam allowances, rounding rules. Real fabric varies. Bolts differ in width, prewashing shrinks cotton 3 to 5 percent, directional prints change cutting layouts, and individual brands cut precuts and batting packages slightly differently. When our numbers and your pattern disagree, follow the pattern; it was written for its specific design.

Measure before you cut

We round up on purpose so you land on the generous side, but no calculator can measure your actual quilt top. Measure your finished top before buying backing, batting, or binding; quilts have a documented habit of finishing a little different from the plan, and an honest tape measure beats a perfect formula.

No liability

King Winston Media is not liable for fabric purchases, cutting decisions, or project outcomes based on this site's results. By using QuiltMath, you accept that final responsibility for measurements and purchases rests with the person holding the rotary cutter, which is exactly where quilters have always preferred it.
